Communications (September 2001)

The Grand Master asked each of the Deputies to hold an informal meeting with the Lodges in the District to go over some  Grand Lodge plans, — what was being expected of the Deputies this year and to get the District and Lodges off and running  before fall.  I appreciate each of the six Lodges in District Four and their attendance at these meetings. A total of 63 came  and I hope each came away feeling that it had been worthwhile. Communications between the Deputy, the Lodges and their  members is essential for any program to have success.  Along with this Masonic Monitor which our Lodges subscribe to (I hope  you read it all),  I will be printing up a page or so of what is going on at the Lodges in the District and these will be available at the Lodges each stated meeting.  I hope you will take one and try to attend another event.

Another part of communication is visitations between the Lodges where we not only find out some different ways of doing  things (hopefully not different rituals) but also get to know other Brothers in what may turn out to be a lifelong friendship.  I  have often said that I would know very few of the men I know now, if I had not become a Mason.  I would have missed out on  so many things and friendships that I have cherished over the years.  Not every meeting is a gem, but visiting and  communicating between ourselves gives us a new lift — a new feeling of caring and being cared about.  I often go away from a  meeting with a great feeling, even if I just sat there and said nothing. (Don't laugh, it has happened.)

Please join me and your Brothers at the following events:

Tuesday, September 4th - Doric Lodge Stated - Dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Doric Masonic Center. Meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, September 5th - Greenwood Lodge Stated - Dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Greenwood Masonic Center. Meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, September 6th - Green Lake Lodge Stated - Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Meeting at 7:30 p.m

Monday, September 10th - Maritime Lodge Stated  - at Doric Masonic Center - Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Meeting at 7:30 p.m

Thursday, September 20th - Occidental Lodge Stated and Past Masters' Night.  Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Meeting at 7:30  p.m.

Walter F. Meier does not meet in September, but will hold a special joint event with University Lodge on Thursday,  September 27th at University Lodge, 4338 University Way, Seattle at 7:30 p.m. Bob Cooper, Grand Lodge of Scotland Librarian and Curator will be visiting and speaking in Seattle that night as part of a tour of ten Lodges.  The rest arc in Canada, so this will be your one opportunity to hear him.  Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

In the past Walter F. Meier Lodge of Research has presented outstanding speakers at no cost to the Masons attending and this will prove to be equally interesting and I hope you will attend.

I also would encourage you to attend our Grand Master's visits to Lodges in the nearby area.  By attending some or all of  these events, you will be communicating with other Brothers; become more knowledgeable about Masonry; and I am sure, will  have a great time and make some new friends. I hope to sec you soon.
