Striving for Excellence (February 2002)
This past few months has shown me some strong improvements in many of the Lodges in our District and also in other Districts where I have visited. It is great to see the interest, enthusiasm, and growth that I am seeing.
Many of the Lodge Officers are new to Masonry, some Masters are showing the value of the training they received in the Warden's workshops and I am pleased to see that most of our Wardens will be attending the workshop in March. I don't believe anyone who goes to the Warden's workshop and pays attention could possibly come away without many new ideas, plans and enthusiasm for the his upcoming job in his lodge.
We all make mistakes, whether in ritual, judgment, or actions. I have often said that I have made more than my share, but I have kept trying and feel that continued effort on all our parts will help us show great improvement and striving for excellence will pay off in the long run. Our lodges need all of our efforts, whether we serve as an officer, sideliner or Grand Lodge Team member. Yes, I believe sideliners are an important part of our lodges. We all perform better when there is a crowd. Your ideas may be just the thing to spark some program in your lodge. Serving on a Committee or helping in the kitchen all is of benefit to the lodge and to ourselves as we partake of the great fellowship available if we just attend. Some of you may have seen the Canadian TV show called the "Red Green Show." There is much silliness and stupidity on this male oriented program, but each show Red somewhere says "Keep your stick on the ice." You can probably interpret that in other ways, but I take it to mean "keep trying, keep plugging away and don't give up no matter what obstacles you encounter." I look forward to the next six months in our Lodges and again offer my help in whatever way you desire. Keep striving for excellence.
By the time you read this, it may be too late to make a reservation for dinner, (call me and we will try to fit you in) but you can still come to the Grand Master's Reception by Districts Four and Five at 3:00PM at Seattle Scottish Rite Center on Saturday, February 2nd. There will be an interesting program, lots of good useful information and great fellowship. We not only honor our Grand Master, but we get a chance to hear about Grand Lodge Programs, and will honor one member with the Grand Master's Achievement Award and four Lodges with the Pillars of Progress Awards. See YOU there.
On the same day, February 2nd, Districts Four and Thirty-two will hold a Secrets of the Chair Degree for new Masters at 8:00AM for Breakfast (small charge) with the degree starting at nine. All Past Masters are invited to be at Ashlar Lodge in Bothell for this event. We have four Masters who are eligible to receive this degree. Come out and support them on this important occasion.
Well Brothers, "Keep your stick on the ice" and come enjoy Masonry in District Four.
Fraternally, Bob J Jensen
