Lodge Leadership (March 2002)

I hope all who attended the Reception for our Grand Master held jointly with District Four and Five in early February  enjoyed themselves.  It was a major effort by both VWB David Campbell and myself, and many other Brothers helped to  make it a success.  We asked young Masons to fill the chairs and I really appreciated the way they fulfilled our requests.   I was impressed with the reports given by the Worshipful Masters, and with the turnout of sideliners.  The Grand Lodge  Team was out in force and I think we made a great showing for our Grand Master, MWB Robert VanZee.

I was very pleased to be able to present the Grand Master's Achievement Award to WB Brian Hardy of Occidental Lodge  for his outstanding contributions as President of the District Four Lodge Association and also numerous other works helping  the Lodges in the District.  I was also pleased to be able to nominate Occidental No. 72, Doric No. 92, Greenwood No. 253  and Walter F. Meier No. 281 for Pillars of Progress Awards.  Each of these Lodges has achieved outstanding work towards  the specific award.  Congratulations to all.

Last year's Masters made a great effort to improve their Lodges and there arc many things to be proud of in each Lodge.   All Lodges and Officers can, and I am sure will, work even harder on this year's programs.  In every Lodge I have visited  this year, the Worshipful Masters have had a written program planned, an outline of the order they wanted the business to  follow, and have carried out these plans with great care.  We do need to continue working on the ritual, and I am confident  that each Lodge will have practices and improve in this field too.  Each Lodge is seeing an increase in the number of  petitions both for degrees and affiliation and that is a good sign that present members value their Lodge and not only want  new members, but believe that the new members will benefit from their membership.

We have numerous Officers, a Secretary and others who are ill and not able to fulfill their positions.  I wish them all  better health in the near future and applaud those who are filling in for them in the meantime.  If I can help in any way, do  not hesitate to ask.

I look forward to these next few months before Grand Lodge, and am happy to report that at the present time, ten  Wardens are scheduled to attend the Warden's Workshop in March.  This is valuable training and they will come back with  many new ideas and plans for the future of their Lodges.  They should make a report to the Lodge at the next meeting on  what they have learned and perhaps will inspire some other Brothers to help in future programs.

Again, keep working.  The smallest effort may mushroom into something major for the individual and for the Lodge.

Fraternally,  Bob J Jensen
