Our Most Important Program (May 2002)
I believe that the most important program in District No. Four is our Scholarship program. We have many activities and programs going in this District, but the one that has the most impact and need is our Scholarship Program. This is one chance to show the public that we care about education and particularly the public schools. On Friday, May 10th, the Awards Night will take place at Doric Masonic Center, 619 North 36th in Seattle. There will be a dessert hour at 6:30 p.m. with the awards being presented at 7:30 p.m. There will be ten $1,000 Scholarships presented to deserving students and YOUR presence is requested. Giving these students money to advance their future education is the whole idea of the program, but YOUR attendance at this event will also give them inspiration and show them that we really care. Our guest speaker will be WB Bud Robinson, who always is an inspiration for his listeners. WB M. Gene Ross, VWB Cleo Hathaway, VWB lan Hyde and others have done a tremendous job on this program and I thank them for their efforts. If you have not made a contribution this year and would like to, it is not too late to send your check to "District Four Public Schools Committee" c/o Cleo Hathaway at 6535 Seaview Ave. NW. Seattle WA 98107. Better yet, bring it with you on May 10th and see some results for your money.
Our Deputy Grand Master has made the following
appointments for the next year in Grand Lodge. I have
enjoyed this first year as Deputy and hope I have
helped your lodge and you as a member of our District. I
look forward to the corning year and all that we will
accomplish. The following Brethren have been appointed:
WB Brian Hardy and WB Albert
Luberts to the Information
Technology Committee;
MW Ken Robinson,
Jurisprudence;
VWB lan Hyde,
Research and Education; and
WB M. Gene Ross and WB Jerry Berger
to Public Schools Committee.
There may be more appointments by Grand Lodge time.
If you count all the members of Walter F. Meier Lodge
of Research who have been appointed, there are
twenty-five more from our District involved in Grand
Lodge next year.
The new plain English ritual will be available at Grand Lodge for each Deputy. During the summer I hope to hold a meeting with each lodge or combination of lodges for them to look at this. It should clear up many small mistakes heard at meetings and should make it much easier for a young officer to learn his part. I want to make this available at all meetings and ritual practices in our District this coming year. I am thrilled at meetings when I see our younger Masons taking a part. Many are doing so and seem to be enjoying themselves also. While our Ritual is not everything in Masonry, it ties us together and gives us inspiration and a reason to congregate as men. It teaches us many lessons, some that are not easy to see, and while our legends and allegories may not be historically accurate, the lessons they teach help us to be better men. I have said many times, I am not sure what I would be or how I would act, if I had not become a Mason, but I know that I am better for being one.
Best wishes to all of you.
Fraternally, Bob J Jensen
