Exit Interview (June 2005)
I just got back from a long needed vacation and went through a series of emotional changes regarding my effectiveness as a Mason and position as the Deputy for District Four. One of the most important things I remembered from my own business is never to complain down stream and don't bad mouth the boss. I contacted Charlene once and compared my job with herding cats, she agreed. Getting six very diverse Lodges on the same page is quite a challenge and l feel like I have failed on several levels. In spite of the level of my competence I was always given a warm greeting when I showed up and accorded proper honors for the office I held. The neat thing about Masonry is in the Master Mason's obligation where my Brother takes me aside and reminds me of my error. Bring it on, if I am to grow as a man then I need to be made aware of my mistakes so I can learn from them.
I look forward to attending my Lodge as Junior Deacon and offering small tidbits of advice without having to speak with the voice and ears of our Grand Master. I will be attending Grand Lodge because I want to, not because I have to. In the months to come I think I can be effective as President of the District Four Masonic Lodge Association. I will be working closely with our new Deputy and the leaders of the D4 Lodges. Meanwhile as Past District Deputy I expect to be less dangerous than a Past Master as I have experienced a small part of the task of the Grand Lodge officers.
It has been really great and thanks for all the fish.
