Brethren, fraternal greetings from our newly elected Grand Master, MWB Douglas E. Tucker.

By the time this article was due the Annual Communication of Grand Lodge had yet to take place, so I can’t yet report on which resolutions passed and are now part of our Washington Masonic Code, or which of the seven candidates who made themselves available for the Grand South is now our Junior Grand Warden.  Whoever it is, congratulations are due to him, as well as a sincere thanks to all the others who ran.  This shows us that good men are still willing to be considered for the important duties of running an organization such as ours.  Stay tuned for the September addition of the Masonic Monitor.  I’m sure there will be a lot to report then.

As I said last month, we owe a debt of gratitude to MWB Wayne I. Smith for his service to the Craft over the past four years.  As fulfilling as it may be to have been the leader of such a large and widely disbursed group as our Jurisdiction is, it must also have been tiring, and he more than most deserves the rest he has earned.  Make sure you thank him each and every time you see him.

Another person I would like to thank is VWB Jim Maher who has completed his 2-year term as Deputy of the Grand Master in District 5.  Jim was instrumental in helping me learn the ropes as a new Deputy this past year, and now it is my turn to “play it forward” with his replacement, VWB Michael Cuadra.  Mike is not only a Past Master of University Lodge No. 141 in District 5, but Mike is also serving as Senior Warden of Green Lake Lodge No. 149 in our District.  Congratulations VWB Michael.  We will be working hard together to put on a joint Districts 4 & 5 Reception of the Grand Master at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008.  Details will be forthcoming.

I can report that the District Four Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at the Ballard Masonic Center on May 20th, was a great success.  Ten very deserving students and their families attended, as well as a good turnout of Masons.  A nice dinner was provided, and during it, we enjoyed an opportunity to sit and talk with the students and their families.  The ceremony itself was held in the Lodge room, where VWB Blair Leckie – President of the Scholarship Committee - did an outstanding job of welcoming everybody, introducing the guest speaker, and presenting the scholarships to the winners.  I am sad if you missed it.  I am sure there is a picture of the students here in the Masonic Monitor.

I can only hope that our “June-uary” weather has finally left us and that we still aren’t waiting for the first warm days of summer to bless us.  If you haven’t already, make sure you sign up immediately for the two-man scramble District Four Golf Tournament which will be held at the Nile on Saturday, July 19th.  And, I hope to see you at the Greenwood Parade at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23rd.  We usually meet at about 100th and Greenwood Avenue, and following the parade we meet back at the Greenwood Lodge for refreshments.

Have fun this summer, and see you in Lodge.

Thanks to both the District Deputy of the Grand Master in District 4, and the Masonic Monitor which publishes his articles for allowing us to reprint them.  The Masonic Monitor is published monthly (except August) under approval of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Washington.  The Masonic Monitor can be contacted at: 6619 132nd Avenue NE, PMB 237, Kirkland, WA, 98033-8627, USA.  Phone: (425) 822-4605 - FAX: (425) 822-2535 - Email: masonicmonitor@earthlink.net.
