A Summer of Activities

Brethren,

I bring you fraternal greetings from our Grand Master, MWB Douglas E. Tucker.  As our seasons begin to change from summer to fall, it’s a good time to first reflect on what has taken place the last couple of months in our District and in our Grand Jurisdiction, and then bring news of things that will be happening soon.

We have not been asleep in District 4, nor does it even feel like we slowed down much for the summer.  You may have heard that Maritime Lodge No. 239 submitted a request to the Grand Master to change their stated communications to every month.  They had a “special” communication in August - (awaiting his official reply) - but by this month, they hope to be on their new regular schedule as Doric Lodge No. 92 has done.  I should also note that both lodges have had some joint degrees this summer and now have gotten a few brothers through their second degrees to this point.  They also have both participated in supporting the Fremont Fair in June and have reported back to their members about their success and planning for next year.  Greenwood Lodge No. 253 has also been busy doing degree work and hosting fellowship nights as well.  In addition, they supported their community at the antique auto show, and marched in the Greenwood Seafair parade (aided by the Occidental Lodge No. 72 float).  Of course, Walter F. Meier Lodge No. 281 met in August as well.  As a whole, our District has brought together those from all our lodges to an annual Horseshoe Tournament in June (won by Greenwood Lodge No. 253), a District Golf Tournament at the Nile, and a District Family Picnic in July.  If you attended other Lodge, other District, or Grand Lodge events, then you did your part to keep Masonry well and alive this summer.  I chose to attend a couple of Grand Lodge events out of our District this summer.  One was a cornerstone ceremony dedicating a new arts center in Longview, and the other was rededication ceremony celebrating Edmonds Lodge No. 165’s 100th anniversary.

What’s coming up?  Well, September brings a more formal return to activities to all our lodges, and a return to District activities as well.  The Walter F. Meier Lodge of Research No. 281 College of Knowledge will resume on Saturday, September 13 at 9:00 a.m., and the District 4 MLA will meet at the Doric Masonic Center on Saturday, September 27 at 8:00 a.m.  And during this month, Maritime’s open Installation of Officers will take place on Saturday, September 20 at 5:00 p.m.

VWB Michael Cuadra of District 5 and I have been working on the plans for our Joint D4-5 Reception of the Grand Master which will take place on Saturday, November 22.  Please mark that date down now.  Details will be shared next month.

See you in Lodge - and remember to follow our Grand Master’s theme and direction to “Pass It On.”

“In the end, it is important to remember that we can not become what we want to be by remaining who we are.”  - Max Depree
