Brethren of District 4. What a distinct honor and privilege it is to represent our newly installed Grand Master, MWB Gale H. Kenney! I look forward to carrying his theme: “Inform, Inspire, Involve."
It is particularly humbling to follow the Past Deputies in District No. 4. I have been personally mentored by several: Very Worshipful Brothers Eldon Hawney, Ian Hyde, Ned Daniels, Bob Jensen, Greg Stewart, Blair Leckie, Brian Hardy, and Most Worshipful Brothers Carl Smith and Ken Robinson.
While these fine men have been role models for me, I will have to continue the tradition by being myself. I am a Past Master and current Secretary of Greenwood Lodge No. 253 and also a member of Walter F. Meier Lodge of Research No. 281. I have served as President of Greenwood Temple Corporation and Vice President of District 4 Masonic Lodge Association. I also have a business to manage and two teenagers to … help manage, so this year will test the old adage “if you want something done – assign it to a busy man.”
We are fortunate in our District to have a full complement of diversified resources: talented, creative, dedicated brothers; Lodges with strong traditions including a research Lodge we should take advantage of, and quality buildings in which to promote the Craft. To me effective Masonry starts and ends with a high level of proficiency in the Standard Work and it is my hope that we work together to help each other attain and polish that ability.
Though many of our Lodges are dark this month and next we can still get our Masonic “fix” by visiting Maritime No. 239 or meetings in other districts. Attend the Greenwood Seafair parade July 22, D4 Picnic July 26 and check www.d4masons.org where WB Dan Miller does a great job updating us on District events.
Together we can Improve Ourselves in Masonry.
Thanks to both the District Deputy of the Grand Master in District 4, and the Masonic Monitor which publishes his articles for allowing us to reprint them.
