As I have now made it to every Lodge in our District since Grand Lodge, I am even more impressed by the quality of the individuals in District 4. The leaders of our Lodges are doing an outstanding job of making everyone welcome at their meetings and are making a sincere effort at performing the Standard Work in opening and closing. It is a concern, however, that some of these meetings are not as well attended as they could be and I would like to offer some suggestions. If we can make it a priority to visit each other’s Stated Meetings, degrees, Installations and special events then we can build each Lodge in our District toward what we want it to be. Quality in District 4 is very good; quantity not so much. Worshipful Masters in particular should visit more.
Let’s face it brethren, there are not at this time enough active members to support seven autonomous groups to stand alone. I don’t think we want to give up on any of the proud traditions that have been developed over some 70 to 118 years. So instead of resigning ourselves to mediocrity, I propose that we do what is in our power to build this district into something we can all be proud of. Involve yourselves in the activities of all the District 4 Lodges!
Also, Greenwood has the Traveling Gavel, so why not go and get it!
Here are just some of the opportunities to participate in and promote this great District:
Saturday, October 3, Maritime Installation of Officers 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, October 4, Green Lake Happy Hour at Teddy’s
Saturday, October 10, WFM Masonic College at Greenwood 9:00 a.m.
Monday, October 12, Ritual Practice at Greenwood 7:00 p.m.
Monday, October 19, Fellowship Night at Greenwood
Saturday, October 24, D-4 Masonic Lodge Association at Doric 8:00 a.m.
Wednesday, October 28, Past Masters’ Night at Greenwood
Saturday, November 7, District Workshop at Greenwood Masonic Center, Hosted Breakfast 7:45 a.m., Seminars 8:30-11 a.m.
In addition are all the Stated Communications and Degrees. Get to know your officer counterparts in the other Lodges; I intend to form a D-4 Masters Club that meets every other month. Show up for as many of these events as possible, and watch us thrive as a hub of urban masonry. You know that to be involved in this way is well worth the effort.
Together we can Improve Ourselves in Masonry
