Members of District 4:
The Lodges in this District are performing more degrees and initiating more candidates than in recent memory. This is a very good thing, and we have a renewed interest in Masonry and the diligence of our members to thank for this success.
We must take advantage of this opportunity by ascertaining that the first and lasting impression of the Fraternity is a positive one! When the Candidate is brought to Light he should see a room full of dedicated Masons anxious to impart wisdom and pride in what we do. Special Communications are every bit as important for attendance as Stated ones. If you have more than one candidate, great; obligate them individually that they may know just how important each is to our future.
Organized, proficient degree work does not just happen; it must be practiced, especially by those Lodges that haven’t had the opportunity to do much of this work lately. While it is desirable to have members of your own Lodge do the obligatory parts, be willing to call upon others in the district to fill in the team.
Once we have made a Mason, the real work begins. Most new Masons have abundant energy, based on their inspiring initiation that must be harnessed right away. Of course we assign one “coach” but hopefully we have a whole Lodge full of Mentors to develop true Brotherhood. Inform, Inspire, Involve can never be more relevant!
On November 7th the District 4 Workshop was held with good success, starting with a hearty breakfast served by WB Tod Smith. Every Lodge was represented and the Craft profited thereby. Many thanks to our facilitators: WB Charlie Tupper (Planning and Programs), VWB Brian Hardy (Ritual, Floorwork, Protocol), WB Larry Blake (Masonic Symbolism), WB Steve Ellis (WMC and Proficiency in Lodge Management), MWB Carl Smith (Grand Lodge Resolutions). These knowledgeable Brothers were simply outstanding, and we were fortunate to have VWB Bill Werner (Research and Education Chair) on hand. The trainers were trained and it is now up to us to provide education for our members, especially the newer ones that can and will be a credit to the Fraternity.
