All seven Installations of Officers are in the books and my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the new District Four Worshipful Masters:
VWB Brian Hardy, Occidental No. 72
WB Jeff Harden, Doric No. 92
WB Leeland Artra, Green Lake No. 149
WB Dan Gatcheco, Rainier No. 189
WB Jim Carey, Maritime No. 239
WB Mark Jones, Greenwood No. 253
WB Dan Miller, Walter F. Meier No. 281
These are leaders with great skill and love for the Fraternity. I look forward to sharing in their goals and challenges this year.
Each ceremony was performed with style and aplomb by the Installing Officers, in lodge rooms full of brothers, friends, relatives, and future members. How do we capitalize on this communication of enthusiasm? Start by reviewing just what it was we promised to each other and the world. How many of us barely hear let alone think about the words that make up an Installation? I was honored to “charge” some of the Officers and Lodges in our District and seized the opportunity to consider the relevance and meanings.
Phrases like “diffusing light,” “practice out of Lodge those duties taught in it,” “disinterested friendship” are worth remembering.
Officers should get to know their colleagues in the other D-4 Lodges and visit them often. Continue the momentum that has been created and “communicate happiness.” Mentor, inform and inspire our newer members.
Involve as many as possible in Lodge and District programs, particularly the District 4 Scholarship Committee, consisting of VWB’s Blair Leckie and Ian Hyde, WB’s Tod Smith, Gene Ross and Tony Corning. They can next be supported at the letter stuffing party, immediately following the D-4 Masonic Lodge Association breakfast meeting, hosted by Rainier Lodge No. 189 at Greenwood Masonic Center, Saturday, January 23rd.
Three Lodges in our District saw fit to bestow the prestigious Hiram Award in 2009:
Brother Alex La Barba, Doric Lodge No. 92
Worshipful Brother Larry Blake, Greenwood Lodge No. 253
Worshipful Brother Neil Quinn, Rainier Lodge No. 189.
This award is for devotion to the Lodge and Masonry over and above the ordinary. These Brothers have been unselfish in completing any task they believe necessary for the advancement of their Fraternity.
